Welcome to my blog. I'm Sam, a 20-something from Canada whose keyboard is covered in sticky maple syrup. True story. Thanks for stopping by.

                      It Brought Me Back

When my nose touches
your back as I roll over in bed

and the smell of your soap
fills my lungs
I know I am home.

The scents of people
 here and gone are forever
circulating around dusty rooms
and swirling around on patios
and docks and seashores.

Sometimes, when we finally
remember to capture a breath,
the aroma of something
 from long ago enters us,
shakes us, and takes us back
to a memory so lovely and divine.

And we wonder why, in that moment
ten or fifty years ago, had we not filled
ourselves to the rim with it
and swam in its deliciousness
 until our fingers resembled prunes
and our mothers called for us
to swim back to the shore.
